My name is Nadia Fariha Sudirman, currently a Legal Executive at Bank Simpanan Nasional (“BSN”). Prior to my role in-house, I was a practicing advocate and solicitor with experience in civil litigation.
I started out my legal career as a litigation lawyer, having spent most of my time advising clients, attending court and preparing for trial. My experience covered the general areas of law, among others construction, contract, defamation, as well as general and banking litigation. During such times, I was entrusted with various responsibilities including leading numerous full trials in the High Court and attending Hearings in the Court of Appeal. Such valuable experience would not have been made possible if it weren’t for my superiors/bosses who had faith in me and trusted me to get the job done. The trust and belief my superiors had for me, has more or less, given me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and venture into the unknown.
Hence, after almost 4 years of wearing the hat of a lawyer, which I dearly loved, I decided to take that leap of faith and leave legal practice, for a career in-house. The decision to shift, was not made without having constant second thoughts. The thrill and excitement of appearing in court and cross- examining witnesses during trial, was always the one thing that made it hard for me to let go. However, I believe that life is an endless journey and we should always seize any opportunity that comes our way. Fair enough, the past 2 years working in-house at BSN has been nothing short of an experience, where my role includes among others, advising stakeholders on legal repercussions and legal risks of certain decisions, manage legal actions filed for and against BSN and ensuring BSN’s rights and reputation is protected at all times.
It has been 6 years into my legal career, but here I am, still a “young” and enthusiastic individual, who strives towards personal growth and success. Having a diverse experience working in law firms and a financial institution, I am very much adaptable towards change in order to suit the dynamics and energy of my team. I also highly regard the value of integrity and empathy when dealing with colleagues and stakeholders as I personally believe, these two principles are the anchors to life and success.
With my background in private practice and the banking industry coupled with the core values and work ethics that I hold on to, I truthfully believe that I will in some way be a valuable addition to the next company I get the privilege to work at.
