Every hiring, primarily, centres around candidates' hard skills, as they can be tested and measured. However, industry experts say the most critical soft skill that any employee has to demonstrate is their 'attitude.'

Psychometric tools provide insights. Yet, they can give insights only about the individual. According to Karunjit Kumar Dhir, Co-founder, SCIKEY, getting the real understanding that matters for an HR manager is beyond individual psychometry. 

He said the best mindset mapping models that can tell how well candidates will perform for a given job, how well they will integrate with their teams, their relationship minefields with their managers, and alignment with the organisation's vision and mission, in general, are more critical, but almost entirely missing.

“The absence of such an insight ends up ignoring the individual's soft skill aspect to an intelligent guess, even though it is most critical for hiring the right candidate. For HR teams who have access to psychometric tools, the time is taken to get results and the cost involved may even discourage most HR from using any of these tools,” he said.

Dhir said it is found that every individual has their strengths and areas of opportunities, but their true self is not about their behaviour; instead, how they respond to the given situation: job and team in this case.

“A candidate may be great with a particular kind of work and with a set of people, but their performance may not be up to the mark with another type of job or team.”

And thus, mapping human mindset ensures that HR managers find the right fit candidate for the job and team both.

Importance of understanding every employee's mindset

Covid has brought significant change in the way organisations deployed their workforce. Following the same, Dhir said HR could do well with traditional hiring, engagement, and management of office-based resources. 

However, he said with most of the tech industry going remote, the importance of understanding every employee's mindset and how they can perform remotely is a subject that makes it more meaningful for sustained productivity and engagement of employees.
