I lived in a small town. Like any other typical Asian parents, my parents were really strict, and due to the social issues of the town, they were afraid to give me a lot of freedom. Both my parents are from an athletic background and I also trained as an athlete since childhood. 

I was 10 when I joined the swimming classes and participated in the swimming competitions. I used to go for swimming training at 5 am and then to school at 7 in the morning. I had to take extra tuition classes after school. So, I never had time for friends. I was not allowed to plan sleepovers and hang out with friends during school time. After high school, when I went to the university, communication was one of the biggest challenges for me. Both my parents don’t speak English and it is not my native language. So, it was hard for me to communicate with a group of students, who came from a privileged background and had good communication skills in English.

I worked on my communication and joined the class. I used to read books to improve my language. I remember I read at least two books in a month and that truly helped me a lot.

'Discipline' and 'commitment' are the two biggest learnings I got from my parents. Things are never easy and it is difficult to achieve the goals in your life. You have to set your mind to achieve better and show dedication and commitment towards your goals. I grew up with sports, which still helps me in creating a balance in life. I like to get involved in physical activities to keep my physical and mental health balanced. It helps in removing all the burdens and makes me feel happy. 

Working in the oil and gas industry, I experienced disparity on the gender front first-hand. I remember when I visited Oman, I was the only woman amongst all men. And, I always received advice that the job is dangerous and not meant for a woman. But, I always believe in myself and get inspired by the people around me. 

I believe that it doesn’t matter whether you are a man or woman, if you have skills and talent, then you will get paid well and get promoted accordingly.

My idea of using a superpower for women is I would like to fill every woman with confidence. Confidence is what allows us to come forward in this male-dominant society and share our opinions strongly and make our presence felt.

Being a working woman, I like to spread positivity among people. I keep telling people that I was once like them, they too can become like me.
