Both my parents were working, and I spent most of my childhood with my grandparents. They used to send me to school and help me in everything I did. Growing up with the grandparents taught me the importance of having an extended family. We used to leave all our homework to have dinner together as early as 6 pm as my grandparents believe that "Food should not be waiting". We took this time as sacred family time.

My mom was a working woman. So, it was no surprise that I also ended up as a working mom myself. Despite their hectic work schedule, both my parents made it a point to always be present at special events like birthdays, school functions, and family gatherings. Today, I also apply the same rule with my kids. My husband and I always try to ensure our presence for the kids at special events.

It wasn’t all happy memories. I had difficulties in getting back to work after giving birth to my second child. I underwent postpartum depression. In the beginning, I ignored the small signs and kept working. But, later, I didn't understand the reason behind the mood swings and lack of concentration in work. My husband helped me overcome the situation and seek professional help.

This incident helped me in learning the importance of self-care. The problem repeated itself after the birth of my third child. This time, I knew what I needed to do and how to get back to work with a healthy mind and body.

After being a mother, I realize that my children are the true inspiration of my work. Kids make us responsible people and motivate us to do better in life and be good human beings.

Being a working woman, I never experienced disparity on the gender front in the Philippines, but I experienced the issue during my international trips in Europe. As a woman, you need to prove yourself as a deserving candidate for the seat. People still put women in marketing and HR departments rather than leadership or technology roles, which we need to change.

If I were given a superpower which I can use for women, I would allow women to transfer the power of giving birth to their partners. A woman goes through huge challenges during childbirth and this will make men realize how difficult it is to be a woman even for a short while.

Today, I am a strong woman-leader with 3 kids and would like to inspire other women to come forward and reach their true potential to make their mark in the world.
