I am the eldest in the family, my birth was a joy to my parents but during my time when I was born, we never had scanning technology as such they didn’t know what was the challenge until my mum delivered me.
I was born with a condition called clubbed foot on both of my legs, for me to walk like others, special surgery was required – this was not norm back then. When my father had inquired with the surgeon about conducting surgery to fix my feet, he was told that the surgery had a 50-50 chance of success. My parent took the chance, the surgery turned out well, my recovery to being able to walk as normal did have its challenges, however, my parents, never gave up on me. It was a tough time for them and me, but they always tried to give me a normal life, that shows when I learned classical Bharatanatyam and was a hockey player in school.
My dad was also playing hockey for the state and had ventured into politics, yet, he tried to bring us together. He believed in family bonding. Even today, I and my siblings connect over mail and video calls. It’s true that we have our differences and change of opinions, but in the end, we are always there for each other.
My father, mum, grandma, and uncle are my biggest strengths. It was not easy for me as a child who was an introvert, timid, lack confidence, and was always fearing communicating with people… They were passionate to guide me through the challenges in my life – always asking me to challenge my own status quo and keep increasing my circle – tough as it might be. I am really grateful to my parents who never gave up on me!
The experience of meeting my husband was life-changing for me, he has always given me an avenue to be more fearless, confident, and wiser. When my daughter came into my life – I think I further morphed becoming more balanced … I guess motherhood does that to you.
Most of us do not realize that we do not have a limit. The power lies within us to do better every step of the way. Balancing our work and personal life is a challenge woman must face undoubtedly. But we are multitasking queens who know how to prioritize and take action.
Don’t judge us by our looks – we are more than what you see! I once worked in a company where the ratio of men to women was 9:1. It was not norm for women to pull through and get major breakthrough. There are always going to be people who question women, and this need not come from men alone; women equally bring us down. I broke the stereotype by closing a Labor Case which was unsolved for 5 years in 4 months with zero cost of legal fees and was able to get employees to stop filing case against the company – it was not easy but I was thought to never give up…
Women are exceptionally good in conflict management – we are enablers who can bring the best out of anyone.
I found this at the later stages of my life; to love oneself and to never ever give up. It has a domino effect. I may not be perfect, but I am a real person. I try my best to do things the right way. When we accept this and try to allocate time for ourselves, we are able to deliver better. It’s a step-by-step progress.
I was managing a team while I had my daughter. I dealt with both my daughter and my team using similar principles and values. I inspired, motivated, and pushed them to ask the why’s and allowed them the freedom of speech. Getting to do the work together with them gains you a lot of respect because as a leader – it gives them an opportunity to see their leader’s support of wanting to walk together. Get them to envisioned what is that they like and how they can connect it to the values of the company – people perform so much better when they can connect with the company’s value. For the child – give them an independence to have a hand in deciding what they want to do with their life.
Now that I am older, I realize that you go through a lot of environmental challenges. Therefore I am focused on serving my community by overcoming each obstacle, pushing and supporting each other to be better.
I have worked in a very tough environment where women were not supportive, and I learned it the hard way hence I am who I am because of certain principles I’ve follow in my life.
We must empower women and support each other always. Life is what we make out of it and we can learn to trust each other – building trust a fundamental foundation to empowering and inspiring each other.
We all are individually gifted and unique, together we have unlimited power!
